Lajienvälisiä kohtaamisia (in English Interspecies Encounters) is a video work that explores the relationship and encounters between humans and other animals, allowing the chosen animals to shape the course of each moment and to emerge as powerful agents in their own right. Throughout the process, the animals have been approached as conscious, autonomous beings—independent from us—who are just as much residents of the city of Helsinki as humans are. Some of them are true natives of the city, others have moved here from elsewhere, and some are merely passing through.
Working group: dance artist Matilda Aaltonen and visual artist Outimaija Hakala.
The music for the video work was composed by Joonatan Aaltonen.
Visual artist Timo Takala helped with the visual finalizing of the video.

The piece was part of the research project “Can animals be expressed? The challenges of conceptualising animals in sciences and arts.”
